Robert W. Thiebout
May 6, 1923 – April 23, 2013
Our great friend and colleague, Robert Thiebout, was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. While growing up and going to school there, he worked in his father’s butcher shop to earn his allowance. As a young man, Bob (or Bobby) as he was called, moved to Chicago and never left. During his lifetime, he was a fan of music and theater, and he especially enjoyed performances of Lyric Opera of Chicago with friends. Bob was as outgoing as anyone could be: Great conversation, humorous stories, and a quick recall of the things that interested him. Bob learned to dance and was employed as a teacher at a ballroom dance studio. He told many interesting and funny stories about that. Until early this year, he spent over 30 years working at The Cliff Dwellers, a private club that functions as a non-profit organization for men and women either professionally engaged in, or who support, the fine arts and the performing arts. Bob died peacefully in the early morning. He will be missed by many. Arrangements: As he wanted, his remains are donated to The Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois. Tributes: The Epilepsy Foundation of Chicago and The Cliff Dwellers are suggested.
