Siobhan Moroney, Associate Professor of Politics and Chair of American Studies at Lake Forest College, will present a talk on her book, Chicagoland Dream Houses: How a Mid-Century Architecture Competition Reimagined the American Home.
In 1945, the Chicago Tribune sponsored a design competition in response to the housing crisis after the war. Because of the Tribune’s reach, the public was able to be involved in the contest. Moroney is an associate professor of Politics at Lake Forest College. Her research on vernacular home architecture and familial relations led her to uncover the Chicagoland Prize Homes competition sponsored by the Chicago Tribune, and her 2024 book is a history of that competition.
