ON Tuesday night, the Cliff Dwellers celebrated the remarkable genius of Norman Malone, their newest Honorary Member. Malone has been an outstanding and beloved music teacher for over 30 years. In these times and beyond, this gifted left-handed pianist nurtured his art in private, overcoming the tragic childhood paralysis that affected his ride side.
Malone’s full story was uncovered by noted journalist Howard Reich, featured in the Chicago Tribune, and brought to the screen in the 2021 documentary For The Left Hand produced by Kartemquin Films, captivating viewers on PBS and at film festivals around the country.
In October 2022, Malone received an Advocate for the Arts award from the Grant Park Orchestral Association.
The program included inspiring presentations by Howard Reich, Gordon Quinn and Eunhae Grace Jeong, together with performances by highly-acclaimed music artists Miguel de la Cerna and Reginald R. Robinson. A pre-event screening of For the Left Hand
