She previously worked as a production assistant on the popular HGTV show The Appraisal Fair. For the past 24 years\, Susan has been the Director of Richard Norton Gallery. She got her start in the business by working for Leslie Hindman Auctioneers. The afternoon opened with a Mimosa Bar\, followed by Afternoon Tea and Susan’s program.

DESCRIPTION:The Theatre Club’s October get-together took us to the Steppenwolf Theatre on Wednesday\, October 28 for the Theatre in Chicago’s “Highly Recommended” production of:\nTOPDOG/UNDERDOG\n\nBrothers Lincoln and Booth\, named in jest\, are two Black men living in America just trying to get by. Lincoln dresses like his namesake\, reenacting his assassination for money and laughs. Booth stays stuck in their apartment\, working tirelessly on his three-card hustle. Sibling rivalry and a lifetime of resentment come to a head in this fast-paced and ferocious thrill ride from Suzan-Lori Parks. The deck is stacked with a Tony Award-winning director\, a Pulitzer Prize-winning script and a tour-de-force showdown for ensemble members Glenn Davis and Namir Smallwood.

DESCRIPTION:The Robert Milne House (Jerry’s House) This exhibition featured work by everyOther\, an informal Chicago-based watercolor sketch group that meets every other Sunday afternoon\, year-round. Their first exhibition at The Cliff Dwellers highlighted the Robert Milne House\, owned by Jerry Adelmann\, CD ’87\, who has hosted the group at his remarkable property for more than 12 years. Jerry spoke about the house at the opening. Also featured was the work of Dawn Liddicoatt\, who began sculpting in the fall of 2017 with Rodrigo Lara at the Hyde Park Art Center. Guests enjoyed complimentary light bites while viewing the latest exhibition in the Club’s gallery.

DESCRIPTION:Artist in Residence Ben Zucker Presents “Forest of Signs”\nForest of Signs is a quartet performing new original music by Ben Zucker where complexity\, intuition\, and exploration meet and flourish. The unusual instrumentation of electric guitar\, piano\, violin\, and vibraphone is matched by the players’ experience across chamber music\, jazz\, and experimental improvisation. The pieces are never the same twice but are always full of intriguing\, enticing combinations of dissonance\, groove\, and space. \nBen Zucker (Cliff Dwellers AIR 2026-2027) is an experimental composer and performer\, interested in music’s unique capacities to model systems of change through a rigorous\, dynamic play of contemplation and visceral immersion in sonic extremes. Starting from a background in jazz and theater\, this speculation now regularly mixes in explorations of philosophy\, improvisation\, ambience\, alternative notations\, juxtapositions\, and protocols. DESCRIPTION:In 1900\, Howard Van Doren Shaw and Frederic Clay Bartlett\, charter members of the Cliff Dwellers\, teamed up on the extraordinary reconstruction of Second Presbyterian Church after a devastating fire almost entirely destroyed the James Renwick Jr. gothic revival interiors. \nThe duo re-envisioned the church in the English Arts and Crafts style. Among the topics that will be discussed include: the role of iconic architecture as a neighborhood landmark; the Center’s economic impact on adjacent neighborhoods; the redesign of Jackson Park; and transportation impacts in and around the Center.
