How the heck do you build something like that? \nBen Johnson (former Cliff Dwellers president and a director with the Chicago firm of AS+GG) has been Project Manager for the Jeddah Tower\, as well as multiple super-tall tower projects around the world. In this talk\, Ben presented a project update on this monumental building\, as well as provided some background regarding the design and construction challenges inherent with “MegaTall” structures. \n  \n

His delicious dishes spanned various Latin regions and countries so that diners could truly experience the bold and exciting flavors of diverse Latinx cultures. \nBright colors and vibrant decorations adornined the Club while Cliff Dwellers sipped specialty cocktails\, created by our gifted mixologist Elsa! \nLive music was provided by Fuego de Cumbia\, a Colombian traditional music group. Rooted in the rich heritage and folk traditions of Colombian Music\, Fuego de Cumbia is led by three women\, who bring communities together to dance in a celebration of culture and history\, transcending boundaries and connecting generations. The group  has performed in a number of venues throughout the region. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:A very special Classical Music Event and Dining Experience\nThe Cliff Dwellers presented a special performance of classical piano and clarinet\, paired with delicious food offerings for each piece from our very own Chef Erick. Each course was explained by the musical artists as the performance proceeded\, and the dishes were accompanied by curated wine pairings. \nMember Jessica Choe\, along with Susan Warner\, will perform. \nOur performers:\nKorean American pianist Jessica Choe began her musical studies at the age of three in Seoul\, Korea\, where she was a winner of several national youth piano competitions. Since immigrating to the U.S. in 1988\, she has performed in many American concert halls\, including the Kennedy Center\, Lincoln Center\, Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood\, and the Wolf Trap. She lives in Chicago with her husband and two children. \nSusan Warner is Assistant Principal Clarinetist of the Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra. In addition to her position at the opera house\, Susan is a member of the Lyric Ensemble\, a chamber ensemble comprised of Lyric Orchestra colleagues. Susan and her husband\, CSO hornist David Griffin\, live in Oak Park together with their children. \n  \n

It all begins when Celine Dion hijacks a Titanic Museum tour and gives her wild take on the movie’s love story. \nThe production has garnered widespread acclaim since its off-Broadway inception\, earning the 2023 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Musical. Its success had led to international stagings in cities like Sydney and London\, with critics praising its blend of camp\, nostalgia\, and side-splitting humor. DESCRIPTION:The Cliff Dwellers  Celebrated our Honorary Member\, Poet Elise Paschen\nElise Paschen (C Honorary Member ’20)\, an enrolled member of the Osage Nation\, is an important Chicago writer and the author of six poetry collections. Her poems have been published widely to great acclaim. Besides editing or co-editing numerous anthologies such as The Eloquent Poem and the New York Times best-seller Poetry Speaks to Children\, she is co-founder of Poetry in Motion\, a nationwide program that places poetry posters in subway cars and buses. Dr. Paschen teaches in the MFA Writing Program at the School of Art Institute of Chicago. \nThe Cliff Dwellers celebrated Elise Paschen’s impactful creative voice and her distinguished career with an enchanting program\, which included music by Bill Buchholtz\, stories by Dr. Lisa Yun Lee\, and poetry readings by Rachel DeWoskin and Thea Goodman. The Chicago Literary Hall of Fame (Don Evans) partnered with us to ensure a truly dynamic event! \n
